The Human Resources Department was started on September 1, 1986 with two employees. Changes that have affected the workplace over the years have included the implementation of new employment laws, (COBRA, FMLA, HIPAA, and ADA). In recent years with the increasing cost of health care, managing the County's self insured health plan for employees is an on-going challenge. Wellness activities have been implemented to assist employees with improving their health and to promote awareness of the costs involved.
Challenges we expect to face in the future include our need to recruit and hire qualified staff and to continue training in order to deal with more advanced and complex systems. Employees continue to desire a work/life balance for themselves and their families. Keeping staff informed and trained on the continuous changes in employment law and technological advancements is a high priority in order to provide excellent customer service to our citizens.
