Name of Event: Fall Photowalk
Time and Date: Thurs., October 23rd, 5:30-7:00 pm
Location: South Rowan Regional Library, 920 Kimball Road, China Grove, NC 28023
Audience:  Adults / Teens / Families
Description:  We’ll start out at the library and head across the street to catch a golden sunset over the Lake Corriher Wilderness Area.  This event is open to all ages and skill levels registration is requested.  Please bring your own camera (even if it’s on your phone) and wear comfortable walking shoes.  In the event of rain, the Photowalk will be canceled.  Please call 704-216-8242 for more information or to register.  Register online at www.rowanpubliclibrary.org.

Name of Event: 2014 Children’s Bookmark Contest
Time and Date: Mon., October 27th - Fri., November 14th
Location: All library locations
Audience:  Children (4-12)
Description:  Children ages 4-12 years old are invited to create and submit their original Rowan Public Library bookmark design.  The winning bookmarks in three age categories (4-6 yrs; 7-9 yrs; and 10-12 yrs) will be reproduced for distribution at all library locations.  Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each age group.  Pick up your entry form at any library location or download online at www.rowanpubliclibrary.org.

Name of Event: Harpo Polo’s China Today

Audience:  Adults
Description: As "Harpo" Polo," a combination of Marco Polo and Harpo Marx, Sylvester describes China's metamorphosis from an ancient culture to a modern one. As he discusses how his own views of China have changed, he addresses the end of the dynasties, the nationalist period, the leadership of Chairman Mao through the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution, and the changes wrought by China joining the world as a modern economy. What does it all mean to China and to the West? Visual material is eclectic and intended to inspire connections with what individual members of the audience already know; interactive discussion encourages participants to draw their own conclusions.
