The Criminal Investigation Division of the Rowan County Sheriff's Office is commanded by Chief D. Ramsey and 1st Lieutenant C. Moose. The division consists of a squad of criminal investigators (detectives) that do follow-up investigations on crimes such as homicide, rape, robbery, burglary and forgery. The squad has six criminal investigators.

Crime Scene Investigations are conducted by two crime scene investigators and one evidence custodian. These officers are also responsible for investigating registered sex offenders and sex offender violations.

The Sheriff's Office works closely with the Rowan County Department of Social Service in investigating child abuse complaints. The office has a squad of four (4) specialized investigators assigned to investigate child sex abuse and juvenile cases.

All the investigators work a rotating schedule, the same as patrol, so there is an investigator scheduled 7 days a week to increase response to crimes in Rowan County.

CID is supervised by 1st Lieutenant C. A. Moose along with Sergeant C. Dangerfield.
