Purchase Permit:

North Carolina purchase permits allow you to purchase a firearm in NC. NC law allows for the purchase of a single handgun with a single valid purchase permit.

1. Fill out a Purchase Permit Application. Come to the Sheriffs Office Located at:
   • 232 North Main Street, in Salisbury, NC.
   • or 102 North Central Avenue in Landis, NC.
2. Present valid Driver's License with correct address.
3. You can apply for up to 5 permits per application. Pay in cash $5.00 per permit.
4. One application accepted per 30 days.
5. Permits are good for five (5) years.

Concealed Handgun Permit-New: (Only available at the Landis Office)

In July 1995, the North Carolina General Assembly enacted a Concealed Carry Handgun law that allows qualifying citizens the opportunity to obtain a permit to carry a concealed handgun.

1. Complete an approved Firearms Safety and Training Course. (We do not teach this class at the Sheriff's office, but we can provide you with a list of qualified instructors in Rowan County.)
2. Make an appointment to go to the Landis Sheriff's Office to complete your application process. Call 704-216-8767 to set up your appointment.
3. On the day of your appointment you will need:
   • Original Certificate from Firearms Course
   • Pay in cash or check $92.00
   • Valid Driver's License with correct address
   • If you have been in the military, we will also need a copy of your DD-214.
4. All other forms will be explained to you, completed and notarized during your appointment. You will also be photographed and fingerprinted at this time. 

Concealed Handgun Permit-Renewal: (Only available at the Landis Office)

Renewals need to be applied for 60 to 90 days prior to your expiration. Do NOT let your permit expire.

1. Make an appointment to go to the Landis Sheriff's Office to complete your renewal process. Call 704-216~8767 to set up your appointment.
2. On the day of your appointment, all forms will be completed and explained to you and notarized.
3. If you have been in the military, we will need a copy of your DD-214 If it was not provided earlier.
4. Pay cash or check $77.00 on the day of your appointment.

Crossbow Permits for Manufacturer, wholesale dealer, or retail dealer

A corporation that is a manufacturer of crossbows, a wholesale dealer of crossbows, or a retail dealer of crossbows may obtain a permit for the purchase or receipt of crossbows by applying to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, located at 232 North Main Street, Salisbury, NC, or 102 North Central Avenue, Landis, NC.

In determining whether to issue the permit, the sheriff shall apply the standards contained in G. S. 14-404, to the extent applicable. Applicants must fill out the appropriate forms and have a criminal history background check that includes State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), and the Administration of Courts (AOC).

The cost will be $5.00 and an additional $10.00 is required if fingerprinting is not on file.
