CHILD SUPPORT ENFORCEMENT
The Child Support Unit is charged with establishing and enforcing court orders to ensure maintenance support for children whose parents are no longer together and/or recouping public assistance that has been paid to the caretaker of the child(ren) which would legally be the biological parents' responsibility. The Child Support Unit is divided into three "mini-units"; Establishment Unit, Enforcement Unit, and Interstate Unit.
The Establishment Unit establishes paternity and initiates the court order. Upon request, paternity testing may be scheduled prior to the establishment of paternity.
The Enforcement Unit monitors compliance with the court order and brings to court for review any non-compliance of the court order.
The Interstate Unit enforces other states' orders upon request, when the non-custodial parent resides within the county's jurisdiction. The Interstate Unit also initiates petitions to other states requesting their assistance in establishing paternity and order for child support or enforcement of an existing order when the custodial parent resides within the county and the non-custodial parent resides in another state.
