Department of Social Services (DSS) provides a diverse scope of human services.  Our staff of 175 dedicated employees collectively touch the lives of more than 30,000 Rowan County citizens with one or more of those services. We are stewards of over ninety million tax dollars.

We depend on our colleagues in other county and community agencies and organizations, as well as concerned citizens, to be our partners in providing safety for our county's children, in enabling parents to become responsible, in helping the unemployed become self-sufficient, and in assuring that our elderly receive the care needed.
