NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
Rowan County is considering applying to the North Carolina Department of Commerce for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for Economic Development. The application will request approximately $750,000 in CDBG-ED Building Reuse funds to assist in the renovation of the former PGT Windows Building at 2121 Heilig Road for CanAm Yarns. This proposed project would represent approximately $52 million of investment in Rowan County, of which $44 million would be in new equipment and real property improvements for CanAm Yarn’s new closed end ring spinning operation. Renovations to the facility will exceed $5.8 million. As a result of the project, 170 new jobs will be created within 24 months with at least 60% benefitting persons of low and moderate income.
Rowan County will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 6:00 PM, in the J. Newton Cohen, Sr. Room, second floor, Rowan County Administration Building, 130 W. Innes Street, Salisbury, North Carolina. The purpose of the hearing is to obtain citizen input into the identification of economic needs and desired economic development activities. The input from the hearing will be incorporated into the County’s consideration and submission of a CDBG application to the Department of Commerce. Written comments received prior to the opening of the public hearing will be considered. Written comments may be sent to Gary L. Page, Rowan County Manager, 130 West Innes Street, Salisbury, North Carolina 28144.
