2018 Summer Reading
Rowan Public Library is ready to rock the summer with a full slate of free programming that encourages reading, fosters a love of learning, and entertains. Summer Reading at RPL is for everyone, with participants organized by age bracket: children (0-10), teens (11-17), and adults (18 and up). Participants log their reading and activities, submit their records, and win prizes.
This year, Summer Reading participants can use READsquared, an online readers advisory and reading program tool to track their reading and activities. Compatible with all mobile devices, READsquared provides quick and easy access to Summer Reading records.
For children and teens who prefer hard copies, the traditional print reading logs will be available. Adult participants can also call 704-216-8248 to report their hours. Ready to get started? Registration for Summer Reading opens May 14.

Children’s Summer Reading includes children from birth through rising 5th graders. Reading hours are tracked June 11 through August 6, and programs run June 11 through July 27. Prizes are awarded when children complete various activities on their summer activity logs. Children who complete 20 activities receive a special certificate and are entered in the Super Reader Raffle, which will be held August 10. View the calendar for Children's Summer Reading programs.
Teen’s Summer Reading includes rising 6th graders through rising 12th graders. Reading hours are tracked and programs run from June 11 through July 26. Teens can use READsquared or print booklets to keep track of the points they earn by reading and attending programs. These points can be converted to raffle tickets at the end of the summer for a chance to win big prizes at the annual Teen Lock-in, which will be held at Headquarters (Salisbury). Teen Lock-In Permission Slip (Word)
Adult’s Summer Reading is for ages 18 and up (including 2018 high school graduates). Rather than formally registering, adults report their reading hours via READsquared or by calling 704-216-8248; reporting equals registration. Programs run June 11 through August 13. The number of reading hours earned determines eligi-bility for prize drawings. Door prizes are awarded at each adult program and grand prizes at the Finale. All branches of RPL — Headquarters (Salisbury), East Branch (Rockwell), and South Rowan Regional (China Grove) — regularly offer film showings as part of their programming. These showings are free and open to the public. An adult must accompany children under 9, and for films with a PG-13 rating, an adult must accompany children under 13.
