Keeper Camp is a specialty camp designed for kids who are interested in working with animals in their future, and who are not afraid of hard work and getting a little dirty. This week long (Monday-Friday) camp has campers working alongside our Animal Keeper staff cleaning enclosures, making diets, creating enrichment, and learning the ins and outs of zookeeping. Campers also get hands on experience with our animal ambassadors and have the opportunity to create and present a "keeper talk" about an animal of their choice.
2020 Dates: July 6-10 (Canceled) / July 27-31 (Canceled)
Outdoor Skills Camp
Outdoor Skills Camp is a specialty camp designed for kids who love the outdoors and aren’t afraid to get hot, sweaty, or dirty. Campers learn basic outdoor and survival skills such as how to build a shelter, how to make a fire, how to purify water, and much more. At the end of the week campers then have the opportunity to put their new skills to the test in an overnight campout!
2020 Dates: June 22-26 (Canceled)
Herpetology Camp aka Herp Camp has its roots in the HERP Project, a North Carolina based project encouraging education, conservation, and field ecology experiences related to herpetology (the study of reptiles (snakes, lizards, turtles, alligators) and amphibians (frogs and salamanders)). Herp camp is heavily focused on science and therefore campers can expect to spend time each day learning about NC native species, including their diet, habitat, and key identifying characteristics. Because science isn’t always boring, campers also spend a good deal of their time putting their new found knowledge to use in the field lassoing lizards, tracking turtles, and surveying snakes!
2020 Dates: June 15-18 (Canceled)
