Rowan County Public Health and Novant Health Rowan Medical Partner to Vaccinate Our Local Child Care and School Employees

This week, Rowan County Public Health and Novant Health Rowan Medical Center are partnering to begin vaccinating local childcare and school employees against COVID-19 in order to ensure their safety within the classroom and as a way for our community to work towards getting each educational institution back to a somewhat system of normalcy.

“We are excited to partner with Rowan County Public Health to get local teachers and childcare workers vaccinated,” said Gary Blabon, president and chief operating officer, Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. “Local educators are the heartbeat of Rowan County; working together to provide care for our community members in one centralized location is a step in the right direction.”

Currently, Novant Health is sponsoring vaccination clinics at the J.F. Hurley YMCA for early child care employees; whereas Rowan County Public Health will host a vaccination clinic this Saturday, February 27th, for both Rowan-Salisbury School System and private school staff. "We are proud to collaborate on COVID-19 vaccination efforts with Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. With a limited supply of vaccine, working together allows us to increase our coverage of this group, while decreasing duplication of efforts,” said Alyssa Harris, Interim Health Director of Rowan County Public Health.

As a  part of Governor Cooper’s plan of gradually moving into Group 3, which started yesterday, any staff  in childcare centers and homes, head start programs, preschool and pre-k programs, traditional public schools, charter schools and private schools are eligible to receive their first COVID-19 vaccination. This includes teachers, custodians, bus drivers, cafeteria workers and any other staff working in those schools. Please note, however, this does not include college and university personnel at this time.

Thank you for your continued patience as we work toward our number one priority of ensuring that all Rowan County citizens that want a vaccine can receive one, while also balancing vaccine supply and abiding by the phased approach provided to us by NCDHHS.
