[ARCHIVED] Campground Supervisor Carol File Retires

Carol File Former Campground SupervisorAfter 25 years of service to Rowan County, Dan Nicholas Campground Supervisor Carol File is waiving goodbye. For nearly her entire tenure with the County, Carol has been the smiling face greeting campers - and the one chasing squatters off of sites, stopping unauthorized guests from entering, and enforcing other campground rules.

When asked about post-retirement plans, Carol says she's looking forward to lifeguarding at the YMCA, something she's wanted to do since childhood.

"We have a farm with a pond and horses - I don't want to travel.  I'm looking forward to burning brush and finding my fenceline."

Most of Carol's funniest memories on the job involve critters, from the friendly 8-foot black snake under her water heater that came back so often it ended up in the Nature Center, to a frantic elderly woman's late night call about a possum.  Never a dull moment!

Kittie Jones Campground SupervisorKathryn "Kittie" Jones has been hired as the new Campground Supervisor.  Kittie is already familiar with the park since she has worked part time in the Gem Mine for the past nine years.  While at the gem mine, Kitte was in charge of jewelry design and is an expert in cabochon style gem cutting.

While Kittie is not a camper by nature, she values the family environment of the park and the campground.

"I was afraid they might get a schmo, but she's perfect," Carol says of Kittie.

Best wishes to Carol in her retirement and Kittie on her new role in the park.
