[ARCHIVED] Rowan Ramblers Attend VIP Fishing Tournament

Ramblers At The Aquarium

Every October the Rowan Ramblers along with 300+ other individuals with visual impairments attend the annual N.C. VIP Fishing Tournament in Manteo hosted by the N.C. Lions Clubs. This year 12 VIPs and 8 volunteers attended with the Ramblers group. During the fishing tournament 11 of our VIPs fished on the Nags Head Pier and one fished on Miss Oregon Inlet Head Boat. The seas were rough and the wind howled, but our Ramblers braved the elements and made it through. After the last line was pulled in and the points tallied our Ramblers brought home 2 trophies. Anna Parker brought home 3rd place from the pier and Diana Wellman took second from on boat.

After the tournament had ended The Ramblers were able to go and explore around the island. We visited the aquarium on Roanoke Island on Wednesday seeing the sea life that calls our Outer Banks home. On Thursday, The Ramblers loaded up and went to Corolla for a new adventure. The VIPs loaded themselves into a large Hummer and took to the off road to see the wild horses. The group was able to see the wild horses in their natural beauty roaming free in the wild. It was an adventure that won't be soon forgotten.

The Rowan County Ramblers want to extend a big THANK YOU to our Rowan County Lions Clubs and The Amvets Post #845 for their donations to help make this wonderful trip possible year after year. We also want to thank our volunteers who took a week of their own time to travel and support our Ramblers during the trip.

If you would like more information on this trip or how to join our Ramblers group give us a call at 704-216-7780.
