[ARCHIVED] All Can Play: Accessible Playground at Ellis Park

Accessible playground equipment

Rowan County Parks and Recreation held an official grand opening and ribbon-cutting for the new fully accessible playground at Ellis Park on July 12, 2018.

The new playground was constructed as a result of a grant awarded to Rowan County in 2017 from the Connect NC Bond program and the NC Parks and Recreation Trust Fund Authority (PARTF). Rowan County was one of 18 projects across North Carolina selected to receive the grant funding.

Some featured components of the play structure include accessible swings, braille panel, sign language panel, and musical keyboard panel. Also included in the playground area is an inclusive orbit which is a merry go round that accommodates someone in a wheelchair, seated or standing all at the same time. The ultimate goal of the Ellis Park playground is to be a place where children, parents, grandparents, siblings, or friends with and without disabilities can interact and…...”All Can Play.”
