The Rowan County Department of Environmental Management works diligently to promote clean and green roadsides throughout our county.
Our program is multifaceted as we work closely with Rowan County Codes Enforcement and Law Enforcement officers to help alleviate the growing problem of roadside litter and illegal dumping within our borders. Through our roadside litter removal, educational programs, and by working closely with our partners, we have achieved some success in mitigating litter issues. Rowan County has 2,498.58 shoulder miles of roadway. During 2019 the Department of Environmental Management alone removed 47.99 tons of litter and 157 tires found along Rowan County roadsides!

Reporting Litter
It is crucial that we have citizen partners who share our environmental values. If you observe anyone in the act of littering anywhere in our state and are able to get an automobile license plate number, please report the offender by completing a North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Litterbug Report.
