Statewide Requirement for Face Coverings Goes into Effect
Governor Cooper signed Executive Order 147 (PDF) earlier this week extending Phase 2 and implementing new health and safety measures such as required face coverings effective today at 5 PM. North Carolina’s daily number of positive COVID-19 tests are continuing to increase; the percent of COVID-19 tests that are positive has remained high; emergency department visits for COVID-19 like illnesses are increasing; and hospitalizations for COVID-19 continue to increase.
North Carolina is continuing the measures of Executive Order No. 141 (PDF) “the Phase 2 Executive Order” for an additional three weeks (through 5 PM on July 17) and is imposing a face covering requirement to slow the spread of this virus during the pandemic.
People are now required to wear face coverings in public spaces, whether inside or outside, where physical distancing of six feet is not possible. View Executive Order 147 FAQs (PDF), which explains requirements and exceptions in more detail.
Mask Up, Rowan!
To assist Rowan County citizens with the new face covering mandate from the state, the Rowan County Health Department and Rowan County Emergency Management will host a face covering drive through at West End Plaza. During this event, we will provide a cloth face mask with instructions for use and care. These face coverings are multi-use and will be provided at no charge. The drive will take place from 10 AM – 1 PM on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at West End Plaza. In the case of inclement weather, please call 980-432-1800 for event information.
