Answers to Some of Your Questions Concerning the Upcoming COVID-19 Vaccine

This week, Governor Cooper announced that as early as late, next week our state’s hospitals could very well be receiving the first shipments of the COVID-19 vaccine for their hospital staff. Here in Rowan County, we are anticipating the first shipment for the majority of the public to happen in January. With access to the vaccine just around the corner, there are many of you that probably have questions and some hesitations of whether you should get or will get one of the two prospective vaccines. With that said, we have created a COVID-19 Vaccine Q&A (PDF) that will hopefully answer most, if not all, of your current questions about the vaccine, how it will be distributed and administered, as well how the vaccine will work to create an immunity to the coronavirus. Please note that this information is constantly changing with new updates. Realizing this, we highly encourage you to check this document often so that you are aware of the newest information concerning the upcoming vaccine.

We will also host a live Vaccine Q&A event with Public Health Director Nina Oliver and her team on Wednesday, December 16, at 12 Noon via Zoom.  Share your questions before the event at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/vaccineQA and join us on December 16:

In the meantime and as we wait for the vaccine to arrive, we must all continue to practice the 3W’s (Wear, Wait, and Wash), anytime we leave our homes. Currently, the 3Ws are the best tools we have to prevent the spread of COVID19 until the vaccine arrives and our bodies have a sufficient amount of time to create a natural immunity.
