Christmas Holidays

Adults: Genealogy Conference Beyond the Grave: Unveiling the Past @ RPL West

Attend a free genealogy conference at RPL West! Activities will include special informational sessions led by featured speaker Rhonda Roederer and Dr. Gary Freeze, a tour of Christ Episcopal Church of Cleveland and its cemetery, and poster presentation featuring various genealogical research. Children: "We Built This" Storytime @ RPL East

This special interactive storytime includes a craft & light refreshments. While designed for children ages 5 and under, all are welcome. Children ages 8 and under must be accompanied by a responsible caregiver (age 16+).

We Built This, a traveling exhibit designed to highlight Black architects, builders, and craftspeople of North Carolina, will be on display at RPL Headquarters. This exhibit is presented by Preservation North Carolina and hosted in partnership with Livingstone College and the Historic Salisbury Foundation. It is sponsored by the Joe L. & Hester M. Sims Family Foundation and Edward & Susan Norvell.

All Ages: Cards for a Cause @ All RPL Branches

Create holiday cards that will be delivered to active service members in the United States Armed Forces and to veterans at the Hefner VAMC in Salisbury. Patrons can specify that their card(s) be delivered to a certain branch of the USAF or to the VA. However, cards submitted for a branch of the USAF do have specific deadlines: November 15 for active service members abroad, and December 5 for active service members stateside. All cards delivered after December 5 will be delivered to the VA.

Rowan Public Library’s Virtual Author Talk series is part of the Library Speakers Consortium. Register to use the READsquared app (available in all app stores) or visit one of RPL’s four branches to pick up your winter reading BINGO card. Get BINGO (horizontal, vertical, diagonal, or four corners) and stop by nearest branch to claim your prize! Everyone who completes the challenge will also be entered into a raffle to win a gift card. Challenge ends January 31 at 11:59 pm.

Second Saturday Bookshop

The Friends of RPL’s Second Saturday Bookshop, located in the West End Plaza, is open the second Saturday of each month. Shop for great deals on fiction, nonfiction, children’s items, literary gift baskets, and more! Sales at the Second Saturday Bookshop support Rowan Public Library. Cash, credit cards and checks payments accepted.

Adults: Photowalk at Livingstone College

Join us for a walk at Livingstone College in conjunction with Preservation North Carolina’s traveling exhibition, We Built This: Profiles of Black Architects and Builders in North Carolina, which is currently on display at Headquarters through January 31. This photowalk will focus on historical buildings found on campus, several of which are featured in the exhibit. Your guides will provide interesting facts about each location and photo tips too! Bring your digital camera/phone to take photos together. We will meet just inside campus by the security booth. The address is 701 W. Monroe St., Salisbury NC, 28144. The photowalk will last approximately 90 min.

The monthly Planning Board meeting starts at 7:00 PM on the fourth Monday of every month. The meeting takes place at 130 W Innes St. Salisbury, NC 28144. The case files for the meeting can be found on the Planning Board webpage located in the side bar. Case file are added within ten days of the meeting.
