There is a $30 service fee, for processing a service with a notice beginning April 1, 2012.
An additional garnishment fee of $30 will also be added when a garnishment order is mailed to your employer. Your employer will deduct 10% of your gross wages each payday until the taxes listed on this garnishment are paid in full.
Call the Tax Collector’s Office at 704-216-8544 to correct any information printed on the garnishment (social security number, employment, address, etc). The Tax Assessor’s Office can be reached at 704-216-8558 to correct your listing information (item being taxed, etc).
Wages are garnished for taxes assessed on vehicles (tagged and untagged), personal property (cats, dogs, single-wide mobile homes, etc.) and real property (land, homes and double-wides).
If you cosigned for a vehicle or mobile home you are responsible for that tax bill. If a mortgage/finance company has foreclosed on property, you must contact the mortgage/finance company about taxes.
You can now pay your taxes with a credit card by visiting the official payments website or call them at 800-272-9829, jurisdiction code 4340.
