Duties & Responsibilities
The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is commanded by Major C. Moose and 1st Lieutenant R. Barkley. CID is supervised by 1st Lieutenant R. Barkley along with 1st Sergeant D. Earnhardt. The division consists of a squad of criminal investigators (detectives) that do follow-up investigations on crimes such as homicide, rape, robbery, burglary and forgery. The squad has 6 criminal investigators.
Crime Scene Investigation
Crime Scene Investigations are conducted by 2 crime scene investigators and 1 evidence custodian. These officers are also responsible for investigating registered sex offenders and sex offender violations.
Children & Juveniles
The Sheriff’s Office works closely with the Rowan County Department of Social Service in investigating child abuse complaints. The office has a squad of 4 specialized investigators assigned to investigate child sex abuse and juvenile cases.
Schedule
All the investigators work a rotating schedule, the same as patrol, so there is an investigator scheduled 7 days a week to increase response to crimes in Rowan County.
