Local Trainings
This section is your go-to resource for mental health and resiliency trainings available throughout our community. These trainings are designed to build awareness, reduce stigma, and equip individuals, organizations, and workplaces with tools to support mental well-being and respond effectively to mental health challenges.
Training Description
The Community Resiliency Model (CRM) is a skills-based training designed to help individuals understand and manage the impact of stress and trauma on the mind and body. Rooted in neuroscience, CRM teaches simple, effective techniques to restore balance to the nervous system and promote emotional well-being. As part of a broader effort to build a trauma-informed and resiliency-based community, several local community members have been trained in CRM. These trained individuals are now equipped to share tools that support self-regulation, healing, and resilience—helping to create a healthier, more supportive environment for everyone.
Training Description

Participants also receive valuable resources to guide them in finding additional help. Training is available in both youth and adult versions and is offered at no cost. Sessions are delivered in a single eight-hour course or split into two four-hour segments.

The Terrie Hess Child Advocacy Center’s W5 Program—Who, What, When, Where, Why—is a comprehensive training initiative designed to empower adults across North Carolina with the knowledge and responsibility to protect children from abuse and neglect. This free program emphasizes the legal and moral duty to report suspected abuse, shifting the burden of protection from vulnerable children to capable, informed adults. Carefully developed for statewide consistency, W5 aims to become an evidence-based model that fosters a culture of vigilance, accountability, and prevention. Participants learn to identify the signs of abuse and neglect in children ages 0–17, understand North Carolina’s mandated reporting laws, and gain clarity on the roles of social services and law enforcement in responding to reports. The training also explores the long-term effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the power of resilience, while highlighting the importance of prevention education in creating safer communities for all children.
